06-Aug-2021 SC holds Singapore's EA award against Future Retail and Reliance Retail deal enforceable <p align="justify">Supreme Court has ruled in favour of the US-based e-commerce giant Amazon by holding that the Singapore''s Emergency Arbitrator (EA) award, restraining the Rs 24,731 crore merger deal of Future Retail with Reliance Retail, was valid and enforceable under Indian laws. Future Retail (FRL) had argued that an EA is not an arbitrator under the Indian law as the term does not find any mention in the statute.</p><p align="justify">Amazon.com NV Investment Holdings LLC and FRL are embroiled in a bitter legal fight over the deal and the US-based firm has sought in the apex court that the EA award was valid and enforceable. </p><p align="justify">Future Retail offers food and grocery categories, fresh fruits and vegetables, meat and poultry, dairy products, staples, FMCG and processed foods, electronics and appliances, clothing and footwear, furniture and furnishing, and other household articles.<br></p>
03-May-2021 Fitch downgrades Future Retail's long-term issuer default rating to ‘restricted default' from ‘distressed' <p align="justify">Credit rating agency-- Fitch Ratings has downgraded Future Retail's long-term issuer default rating to ‘restricted default' from ‘distressed' following the company's announcement that it has completed restructuring of bulk of its onshore debt. The rating agency views the move as a distressed debt exchange (DDE). At the same time, it affirmed the rating on the company's USD500 million 5.6 per cent senior secured notes due 2025 at ‘distressed' with a recovery rating of ‘RR5'.<p align="justify">Future Retail offers food and grocery categories, fresh fruits and vegetables, meat and poultry, dairy products, staples, FMCG and processed foods, electronics and appliances, clothing and footwear, furniture and furnishing, and other household articles.</p>

20-Apr-2021 SC stays proceedings before Delhi HC in case related to amalgamation of Future Retail with Reliance Retail <p align="justify">The Supreme Court (SC) has stayed the ongoing proceedings before the Delhi High Court in the case related to the amalgamation of Future Retail (FRL) with Reliance Retail. A bench of Justices R F Nariman, B R Gavai and Hrishikesh Roy posted the matter for hearing on May 4 and directed that all pleadings be completed in the matter.
