NPS Vatsalya, introduced in the 2024 Union Budget, is India’s first pension scheme designed for minors. Managed by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA), it encourages young Indians to start saving early and ensures long-term financial stability.

Eligibility Criteria for NPS Vatsalya 

  • All Minor Citizens up to 18 years of age can join the scheme. 
  • Account Opening Contribution is Rs.1000 Minimum and there is no maximum limit. 
  • Subsequent Contribution is  also Rs.1000 Minimum  and there is no maximum limit. 
  • Account opened in the name of the Minor and Operated by the Guardian. 
  • Minor to be sole beneficiary. 
  • Seamless conversion into regular NPS account after attaining 18 years of age.

Flexibility in NPS Vatsalya

Before Turning 18 

  • Partial Withdrawals available after 3 years for 3 times till subscribers turn 18. 
  • Up to 25% of Contributed Amount. 
  • Partial Withdrawals can be made for the purpose of education, treatment of specified illness, disability of more than 75%. 

After Turning 18

  • Account Converted into a regular all citizen account.
  • Fresh KYC of minors within 3 months of turning 18. 
  • All Citizen NPS Account models will apply.
